Anxiety Treatment

Panic Disorder

Panic disorder includes experiencing recurrent, unexpected panic attacks, which are intense periods of fear or discomfort that can lead to intense emotional and physical reactions. 

Physical symptoms often include:
  • Heart palpitations
  • Sweating
  • Trembling
  • Shortness of breath
  • Feelings of impending doom
Many people also experience persistent concern about not being able to control another attack if one happens, leading to increased anxiety.

Specific Phobias

Specific phobias include intense, irrational fear of specific objects or situations like heights, flying, and spiders. Those with this type of anxiety disorder often have an immediate anxiety response when exposed to the feared object or situation. They will also go to great lengths to avoid their phobia.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

OCD is defined by recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions). Compulsions are performed in response to obsessions, often to reduce distress or prevent feared events. OCD symptoms also often interfere with daily activities.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

PTSD involves exposure to a traumatic event followed by symptoms like:

  • Flashbacks
  • Nightmares
  • Severe anxiety
  • Uncontrollable thoughts about the event
Those with PTSD may actively avoid reminders of the trauma. They may also experience hyperarousal symptoms, such as being easily startled or feeling tense. PTSD is often in response to events such as natural disasters, combat, or assault.
