Understanding and Addressing the Scope of Trauma

At MBO, we are committed to creating a lasting, positive change in our community by helping individuals heal from trauma and mental health challenges that are holding them back from leading the lives they deserve.

We want you to know that you are not alone in your journey. Roughly 70% of U.S. adults have experienced at least one traumatic event within their lifetime.

With soon-to-come personalized outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) treatment strategies that encompass all facets of your well-being – mental, emotional, and physical – we will help you achieve sustainable healing.

Causes of Trauma

At MBO, we help individuals deepen their understanding of themselves and their traumatic experiences.

Trauma is a response to deeply distressing or disturbing events that overwhelm a person’s ability to cope. It can cause feelings of helplessness, diminish your sense of self, and cause difficulty in feeling a full range of emotions.

Some common sources of trauma include:
  • Abuse: This may be emotional, physical, or sexual.
  • Neglect: Neglect can develop into trauma when it is long-lasting, especially when it starts during childhood.
  • Accidents: This can include incidents such as car crashes or workplace incidents.
  • Natural Disasters: These may include earthquakes, floods, or hurricanes.
  • Life-Altering Experiences: This can include deaths, assault, divorce, active combat, or severe illness.

Trauma can lead to exacerbated symptoms of mental distress, physical strain, substance use disorder, and even post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). At MBO, we know that an average of 6 out of every 100 people – or 6% of the U.S. population – will develop PTSD at some point in their lives.

We are committed to challenging that statistic and enabling those with trauma and PTSD to overcome their challenges and reclaim the healthy, happy, and fulfilling life they are capable and deserving of leading.

Evidence-Based Treatments to Overcome Trauma

To effectively address the effects of trauma, Mind Body Optimization utilizes multiple evidence-based treatments that have been proven effective through research and clinical experience.

Some of these include:

  • Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT): This approach focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to distress. It aims to improve coping strategies and resilience.
  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR): This is a specialized form of trauma treatment designed to help individuals process traumatic memories more effectively by facilitating the brain’s natural healing process.
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): This combines traditional CBT techniques with mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies to help individuals regulate emotions.
  • Trauma-focused therapy: This approach helps individuals process the traumatic event(s) and learn coping strategies to manage symptoms. It often involves a combination of talk therapy and skill-building exercises.
  • Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT): This approach focuses on identifying and challenging irrational beliefs that contribute to emotional distress, leading to more productive thought patterns.

We offer many other evidence-based trauma treatment options depending on an individual’s needs, symptom severity, and co-occurring disorders. Each treatment modality will be curated to the unique circumstances of your needs.

Trauma rarely exists in isolation. Often, it echoes alongside depression, anxiety, or addiction, creating a complex web of challenges. At Mind Body Optimization, we understand this interconnectedness. Treating just one issue often leaves others unaddressed, hindering complete healing. That’s why we offer a comprehensive approach in the form of dual diagnosis care.

Here, every aspect of your story finds its place. We develop personalized plans that tackle both the impact of trauma and any co-occurring conditions. We don’t compartmentalize your wellness; we weave it together, ensuring each element receives the attention it deserves.

In addition to treating trauma, we address:

  • Mental health challenges, such as grief, codependency, self-esteem issues, and anger
  • Mental health conditions, such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, and emotional disturbances
  • Behavioral addictions, such as kleptomania, compulsive gambling, and video game addiction
  • Substance use disorders and addiction, such as alcohol use disorder (AUD) and heroin addiction
